Open to all. Poses are selected, arranged and adapted to help develop strength, flexibility and ease. Learn to intimately connect breath with movement, and practice moving the attention inward to the true self. Deep relaxation is part of every class. Sanskrit in Soho

Enjoy regular sessions with the beautiful sound, look and feel of the language of yoga. This introductory course is a continuation of ongoing Sanskrit study with Jo at Ashtanga Yoga New York, 430 Broome Street #2 in Manhattan. Yoga Sutra Study in Queens

A series of classes, monthly throughout the fall (September 12, October 17, November 14, December 12), on Patanjali's classic work, the Yoga Sutras. Discuss the activities of the mind, the price of letting the mind run rampant, the ways in which we can get better at controlling our minds, and the gifts of such discipline. Chant select sutras in Sanskrit, the beautiful language of yoga, hone your ability to read the Devanagari script, and connect directly to meaning with a practical application of Sanskrit grammar.  $100 for the series, $30 per session. Introduction to Sanskrit: An Immersion
Learn this ancient language for a direct connection to yoga philosophy or for the sheer joy of making beautiful sounds. This educational adventure - the American Sanskrit Institute's  introductory immersion weekend - gets you chanting and reading devanagari script. Presented by Jo at Yoga Yama, 13 N Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, NY 11763. Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm. $250. Introduction to Sanskrit: An Immersion
Join Jo for a very special Columbus Day weekend in New Hampshire. On Saturday and Sunday, explore the language of yoga by feeling each sacred sound in your palate - learn proper pronunciation - and learn to read the beautiful devanagari characters. Using the clarity and support of the American Sanskrit Institute's revolutionary learning model, Sanskrit is made enjoyable and thoroughly accessible. No experience required for this joyful practice!

And - Celebrate the beginning of the Navaratri festival! Robert Moses (co-publisher of Namarupa) and his family are opening their home each evening to those who'd like to participate in pujas and chanting in honor of the feminine divine. A feast for the senses as well as an opportunity to be with our sacred selves.
