Sanskrit in Soho

Learn this ancient language for a direct connection to yoga philosophy or for the sheer joy of making beautiful sounds. This introductory course is the kickoff for ongoing Sanskrit study at Ashtanga Yoga New York, 430 Broome Street #2 in Manhattan. Enjoy regular sessions with the beautiful sound, look and feel of the language of yoga - and appreciate the yoga sutras as never before. Introduction to Sanskrit: An Immersion

This educational adventure - the American Sanskrit Institute's  introductory immersion weekend - gets you chanting and reading devanagari script. Yoga Sutra Study in Queens

An introductory series of classes, monthly throughout the spring (1/24, 2/21, no class in March, 4/18, 5/16, 6/13), on Patanjali's classic work, the Yoga Sutras. Discuss the activities of the mind, the price of letting the mind run rampant, the ways in which we can get better at controlling our minds, and the gifts of such discipline. Chant select sutras in Sanskrit, the beautiful language of yoga, hone your ability to read the Devanagari script, and connect directly to meaning with a practical application of Sanskrit grammar.  $120 for the series, $30 per session. Patanjali's Yoga Sutras: Patanjali's Great Meditation on the Senses

A week of exploration: a deep look at Patanjali's careful observation and recording of what happens for those who choose particular points of focus for meditation. You'll connect directly to this ancient text, and experience your new understanding in meditation practice. Co-taught by Jo and fellow ASI teacher, therapist and musician Josh Michaell. Sanskrit II: An Immersion
This weekend immersion takes as its foundation the points of resonance discovered in the American Sanskrit Institute's Introduction to Sanskrit. Enhance your ability to read the beautiful script of Sanskrit - devanagari - by mastering compound consonants, refine your pronunciation of familiar words, and learn to chant select sutras, slokas and passages from the Upanishads.
